After Ukraine’s victory in the war, a new format will be created to resolve the Transnistrian conflict.
This was stated by Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference after the summit of the European Political Community, a correspondent of European Pravda reports from Moldova .
Zelensky noted that he considers the current format unviable, in which the “intermediary” is the occupying state Russia.
“Do you see life in the 5 + 2 project? Do you see the result? Why talk about a project that is not alive? I see no reason to talk about it,” he said.
It should be noted that officially the 5+2 format is the only valid international format for the Transnistrian settlement. It includes representatives from Moldova and Transnistria, as well as Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE (mediators), the EU and the US (observers).
According to Zelensky, a fundamentally new format will be created “over time” with the active participation of Ukraine.
“We will have to speak from the position of a strong state, a victorious state that has reclaimed its land… I don’t know if other partners will need help – probably, in this situation, both Romania and our close partners, maybe Moldova will want to connect some “states. But Ukraine will definitely play one of the main roles, because we have a (common – ed.) border,” he explained.
Earlier, Zelensky denied rumors about the planned military actions of Ukraine in Transnistria . He also stated that he was confident in the unification of Moldova .
