President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on international organizations and every state to respond to the act of ecocide committed by the Russians by blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

Direct speech: “I appeal to everyone in the world who values life. Today, on our Ukrainian soil, the Russian invaders committed the biggest crime of ecocide, and not only during this war, but for decades.
In fact, the Kakhovka reservoir, one of the largest in Ukraine, has been destroyed. 18 billion cubic meters of water.
All structures of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, its dam were in the occupied territory under the complete control of the Russian occupiers.
Back in the fall of last year, we had information about mining by the invaders of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. They did it on purpose. First, to blackmail the world. Secondly, to blow up the dam and use the flood as a weapon. This is actually what happened.”
Details: Zelensky said that tens of thousands of people remain in the flood zone, where more than a hundred thousand people lived before the war.
The President stressed that the destruction of the dam and reservoir is a man-made blow to the environment, after which nature will have to recover for decades.
According to the head of Ukraine, it is still impossible to predict how much chemicals, fertilizers and oil products that were stored in flooded areas will fall into rivers and the sea.
Direct speech: “Today, several things are obvious. First, such a crime of ecocide could not have occurred simply as a result of the shelling of the dam. In order to destroy it, the Russian forces had to act consciously – mine, blow up, destroy.
Secondly, no country in the world should stand alone against such terror, and I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine!
Third: an immediate and maximum reaction of the world to Russian terror is needed . From the UN Security Council to every international institution. Every state, every leader. Russian terrorists must leave all our territory, every meter of which they are trying to use for the sake of evil and catastrophes. The faster the de-occupation, the faster the security.
The deliberate destruction of the hydroelectric dam by terrorists looks the same from all points of view in the world. For Africa, and for Europe, and for the United States, and for China, and for Australia, and for India, man-made disasters are evil.
We must stop the Russian evil. All other terrorists in the world must see that terror is punished by the world.”
What preceded this:
- On the night of June 6, the Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station , destroying the engine room and the station itself , it cannot be restored . Ukrhydroenergo expects the reservoir to operate within the next 4 days. The shallowing of the Kakhovka reservoir threatens the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
- The explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station caused an ecological catastrophe. Water from the reservoir began to flood cities and villages , evacuation began. As a result of the explosion of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, problems began with the supply of water in Krivoy Rog, Marganets and Nikopol.
- Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the catastrophe created by the Russians at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station will not stop Ukraine from de-occupying its own territory and did not increase the chances of the occupiers to stay on this territory.
