Toyota to Bring Century Luxury SUV to India? Deets Inside

Markets worldwide have shown a strong appetite for these opulent vehicles, and Toyota aims to tap into this demand by extending the Century brand beyond its sedan origins.

Toyota, a global automotive giant with a wide range of models, is reportedly considering introducing a one-of-a-kind addition to its lineup in India: the luxurious Century SUV. The Century brand is currently associated with an opulent sedan available only in the Japanese market, catering to discerning clients who prefer chauffeur-driven experiences. Toyota is reportedly expanding the Century brand to include a lavish SUV variant in order to capitalise on the rising demand for luxury SUVs in international markets.

The launch of a Toyota Century SUV appears to be a strategic move in line with the global trend towards luxury SUVs. Markets around the world have demonstrated a strong appetite for these opulent vehicles, and Toyota intends to capitalise on this demand by expanding the Century brand beyond its sedan origins. With India emerging as a burgeoning market for luxury SUVs, the launch of a Century SUV could propel Toyota to the top of the country’s automotive landscape.

Notably, the Century SUV’s international debut could mark its entry into India, potentially as a completely built-up unit (CBU). Luxury SUVs have witnessed a surge in demand within the Indian market, and if brought to India, the Century SUV could claim the title of Toyota’s most expensive offering in the country. As of now, the Land Cruiser holds that distinction. Differing from the Land Cruiser, which is traditionally body-on-frame, the new Century SUV is expected to adopt a monocoque architecture to enhance its luxury-oriented ride quality and refinement.

Anticipated to measure an imposing 5.2 meters, the Century SUV would likely offer a two-row configuration with the second row designed for utmost luxury and comfort. Drawing inspiration from the Vellfire, another luxury offering from Toyota, the Century SUV might enter the Indian market as a limited CBU launch. Interior amenities are expected to match the brand’s opulent reputation, with a substantial touchscreen infotainment system, rear passenger controls, massage seats, and even a fold-out table for added convenience.

Toyota is expected to depart from tradition by equipping the Century SUV with a hybrid powertrain, as opposed to the massive petrol engine found in the Japanese-market Century sedan. This decision is consistent with global trends towards electrification and environmental sustainability. A hybrid powertrain not only conforms to changing preferences, but also positions the Century SUV as an international offering that meets evolving emission standards in various markets.

While more information about the Toyota Century SUV is awaited, the possibility of an early introduction to the Indian market appears promising.
