The Indian Mission to ASEAN along with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare launched the five-day Millets Festival in the Indonesian capital on Wednesday. The objective of this move is to create awareness and create a market for millet and millet-based products among the 10-member group.

India’s Ambassador to ASEAN Jayant Khobaragade said, ‘The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) participated in the ASEAN-India Summit and the East Asia Summit on September 7. During the ASEAN-India Summit, one of the joint statements adopted was on food security.

Very good in the overall framework of ASEAN-India relations

He said, ‘We have been celebrating Millet’s festival for two months, including food security. How effectively is our comprehensive strategic partnership working?’ Describing millet as one of the important elements to ensure food security, he said that it is very good in the overall framework of ASEAN-India relations.

Khobaragade said, ‘There is a lot of interest. For this Millets Festival, we have representation not only of Indian farmers and industrialists, but also of ASEAN member countries.’

Bhavishi ke liye hai food options

The head of the National Food Agency (Badan Pangan Nasional (BPN)) Indonesia, Erif Prasetyo Adi, outlined millet as a farmer-friendly and sustainable food option for the future in the face of climate change.
